18-Year-Old Female Fatally Shot on Bus Near LAX, Suspect Escapes
A tragic incident occurred on Friday night, as an 18-year-old woman named Jasmine Mendez was shot and killed inside a Metro bus near Los Angeles International Airport.
The shooting took place around 10:47 p.m. on Metro Bus Line 115 in Westchester. According to a statement from a Metro spokesperson, Jasmine Mendez was found injured and was transported to a local hospital, but later succumbed to her injuries.
The incident is still under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and no further details about the incident were provided in the statement from the Metro spokesperson. The LAPD did not immediately respond to a request for comment Saturday.
The altercation that led to the shooting is said to have been between Jasmine Mendez and a male passenger. During the altercation, the male passenger, who is 20 years old, allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Jasmine Mendez. After the shooting, the bus driver stopped the bus and allowed passengers to exit.
The identity and whereabouts of the gunman are still unknown. The victim's connection to the gunman remains unclear.
The Metro spokesperson extended sympathies to the victim's family and friends and thanked the Los Angeles Fire and Police Departments for their prompt response.
