In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Telugu film industry bid farewell to one of its most revered matriarchs, Allu Kanakaratnam, who passed away at the age of 94. The news of her demise, which came at 1:45 AM on Saturday, has left a void that cannot be filled.
Allu Kanakaratnam was the wife of the legendary actor Allu Ramalingaiah and the paternal grandmother of Allu Arjun and the maternal grandmother of Ram Charan. Her passing has sent shockwaves through the Konidela-Allu family, a name synonymous with Telugu cinema, business, and politics for over three generations.
The news of Allu Kanakaratnam's passing has elicited a wave of condolences and tributes from the film fraternity. Notably, actor Chiranjeevi expressed his "heartbreak" at the news, taking to social media to express his feelings.
Allu Arjun, who shares a close bond with his grandmother, found her performing a ritual to ward off evil after his arrest over a fan's death at his movie premiere in December 2024. Upon finding her, he gave her a tight hug and sought her blessings. In response to her passing, Allu Arjun flew to Hyderabad from Mumbai for the last rites and to be with his family.
Ram Charan, too, paused the shoot of his upcoming movie Peddi and returned to Hyderabad to be with his family. The family will perform the final rites of Allu Kanakaratnam at Kokapet.
In an unexpected twist, Nagarjuna disclosed that the actual 3000-crore-rupee superstar is Mahesh Babu, but the focus remains on the life and legacy of Allu Kanakaratnam, a woman who has left an indelible mark on the Telugu film industry and the hearts of many.
