A person perished in the apartment fire in Smyrna, and authorities presume they were a crime victim.
In the early hours of Wednesday, a fire incident occurred on Windy Hill Road in Smyrna, Georgia. Fire units were called to the scene at approximately 4:15 a.m.
The fire started and was put out by crews, but it started up again. Fortunately, no other residents were reported to be affected by the fire, according to officials. However, one person has been confirmed dead as a result of the fire. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed.
Resident Chartez Bailey reported that his and a neighbour's doorbell cameras were either knocked down or destroyed. One of the doorbell cameras was found dismantled in a nearby creek bed.
A fire marshal K-9 was sent inside the unit where the fire happened to sniff for any trace of ignitable liquids or explosives. The nature of the suspected crime has not been outlined, but officials suspect a crime occurred before or during the fire.
