A Puppet Adaptation of Snow White Exists in a Shortened Version, Leaving Us Wishing for a Viewing Opportunity

In the upcoming live-action Disney Princess feature film, Snow White, Rachel Zegler shines as the titular character. According to recent reports, the filming process included an interesting twist - the use of puppets, particularly for the Seven Dwarfs.

Contrary to some speculations, there is no evidence suggesting that puppeteers from Jim Henson Productions or similar studios were involved in the adaptation of Snow White, nor that the puppets representing the Seven Dwarfs were made by Jim Henson Productions. However, the puppetry style used in the film bears a resemblance to that of Julie Taymor's work, particularly The Lion King on Broadway.

During the filming, three different versions of every scene were filmed for the movie, and Zegler's scenes with the Seven Dwarfs were shot multiple times. Interestingly, Zegler performed choreographed shots during her performances, even dropping things like a broom. Despite this, the cut of the film where Zegler drops props is not included in the final version.

The puppets used for the Seven Dwarfs were attached to the feet of the puppeteers, allowing for a unique blend of live-action and puppetry. This approach could have potentially avoided problematic casting or ugly CG, as suggested by some.

Rachel Zegler recently discussed her experience working on Snow White on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The film opens in theaters this Friday, offering audiences a chance to witness this innovative blend of live-action and puppetry firsthand. Despite the lack of a puppet-centric release, a clip showing Zegler during the shoot has been released, offering a glimpse into this intriguing aspect of the film.

Moreover, the article expresses a view that a potential collaboration between Zegler and the Muppets could have resulted in a more appealing alternative to the current approach - perhaps even a Labyrinth-style Jim Henson Muppet fairytale adaptation. While such a film remains a possibility for the future, audiences can look forward to the release of Snow White this week.
