Accident on the A2 Near Hannover: Two Severely Injured and Fire Department Involved

On Saturday evening at around 6:30 PM, the Hannover Fire Department was alerted to a traffic accident on the A2, heading towards Berlin. The accident occurred at the Varrelheide rest area, between the Bothfeld and Lahe exits.

A 71-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle, causing it to overturn. As a result, both occupants of the vehicle were severely injured and transported to nearby hospitals. The driver was able to exit the vehicle on his own, while the passenger had to be extricated by the fire department using technical equipment.

A total of 20 firefighters and emergency service personnel were on the scene until approximately 7:15 PM. The Varrelheide rest area was closed during the operation, but traffic on the A2 was not affected.

The police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.
