Academic year commences with recognition of neuroscience students and post-doctoral researchers in a celebratory ceremony
University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Kicks Off Academic Year with Awards and Philosophy Meeting
The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry hosted its annual Awards and Philosophy Meeting on the first day of the 2022-2023 academic year. The event, held at the school's premises, aimed to recognise and celebrate the achievements of postdoctoral associates, graduate students, and neuroscience graduate students.
The meeting began with a warm welcome and an overview of the academic year ahead. Among the first honours bestowed was the Merritt and Marjorie Cleveland Fellowship, which was awarded to Michael Lim. The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Meliora Scholarship was presented to Andrea Campbell.
Several neuroscience graduate students were honoured for their various achievements. Tanique McDonald received both the Provost Fellowship and the J. Newell Stannard Graduate Student Scholarship. However, the recipient of the J. Newell Stannard Graduate Student Scholarship for 2022 remains undisclosed. Mariah Marrero was recognised with the Provost Fellowship and the Irving L. Spar Fellowship.
The Outstanding Postdoctoral Mentor Award was presented to Rianne Stowell, Ph.D., and the Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Equity and Inclusion was awarded to Bryan Redmond. Emily Przysinda was honoured with the Outstanding Student Mentor Award.
The Awards and Philosophy Meeting also recognised the efforts of individuals working towards equity and inclusion in the academic community. This year, the event marked a significant step towards fostering a more inclusive environment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
