Traffic Accident in Reinickendorf: Four Injured, Investigation Ongoing

Yesterday afternoon, a traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Eichborndamm, Waldstraße, and Wittestraße in Reinickendorf. The incident involved a Mercedes and a VW, resulting in injuries for four individuals.

According to reports, the Mercedes was entering from Wittestraße, while the VW was entering from Eichborndamm. The driver of the VW, a 44-year-old man, drove against a red light, while the Mercedes driver, a 46-year-old man, entered against a green light.

The VW driver later stated that his brakes had failed, causing the collision. As a result, his vehicle was impounded for a technical inspection, which revealed brake failure as the probable cause. The Mercedes and the VW are no longer roadworthy and have been removed from the scene.

Four people were injured in the collision: the 46-year-old passenger in the Mercedes, the VW driver, a 17-year-old passenger in the VW, and an 18-year-old occupant of the VW. The Mercedes driver remained unharmed. The 46-year-old passenger and the VW driver suffered head injuries and are still receiving treatment. The 17-year-old passenger and the 18-year-old occupant required outpatient treatment and have since been discharged.

A specialized commission of Police Directorate 1 (North) has taken over further investigations into the accident. The intersection was closed for accident investigation until 6:45 pm, affecting bus line 221. The intersection was reopened at 6:45 pm yesterday.
