Accident on Rothenbergstrasse in Dusseldorf leaves three people injured
On Tuesday morning (11.2.), a serious head-on collision occurred on Rothenbergstraße, causing significant traffic disruptions. The collision involved two specific cars: a Ford Puma and a VW ID.3.
The incident unfolded around 10:00, when the 65-year-old driver of the Ford Puma, a man from Waltrop, attempted to overtake another vehicle. In the process, he crossed into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with the VW ID.3 driven by a 30-year-old from Naumburg (Saale).
The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the 65-year-old driver being trapped in his vehicle. Firefighters were promptly called to the scene, where they used hydraulic rescue tools to extricate the driver. The 66-year-old passenger, who was able to exit the vehicle, was also severely injured. Both injured individuals, along with the 30-year-old driver who sustained minor injuries, were transported to hospitals for further medical treatment.
The police's traffic accident recording team took over to determine the cause of the accident. The collision occurred on a straight road with a solid center line, suggesting that the overtaking manoeuvre may have been the cause.
The emergency services' response to the incident caused a closure of the Rothenbergstraße, leading to traffic disruptions during the morning. The police are still investigating the incident and have not released any further details at this time.
