Collision at Falterweg/Sachsenring: Police Appeal for Witnesses
In Essen, Germany, on the 6th of August, at approximately 21:05, a serious accident occurred at the junction of Falterweg/Sachsenring. The collision involved a Citroën and a blue Skoda.
According to initial investigations, the Skoda was traveling from Bochum on the Sachsenring and overtook another vehicle, colliding with the Citroën that was heading towards Sachsenring, intending to turn onto Dahlhauser Straße on the Falterweg. The impact was significant, trapping the 77-year-old man and his 69-year-old wife in their heavily damaged car.
Emergency services, including the police's accident investigation team and Essen's fire department, were quickly on the scene. The couple was rescued and taken to a hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, their injuries were severe.
The driver of the Skoda fled the scene on foot, and a large-scale manhunt was launched, but it was unsuccessful. Witnesses described the suspect as approximately 25 years old, around 1.80 meters tall with a southern European appearance. He had short, black hair combed to the side, a dark beard, and was wearing a black t-shirt with a white print and tight jeans.
Police are now appealing for more witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information about the accident or the driver's identity is asked to contact the police in Essen on 0201/829-0 or by email at [email protected].
The Sachsenring was closed in both directions for the duration of the investigation. The police are urging motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.
This incident serves as a reminder to always drive with caution and respect the speed limits. Our thoughts are with the injured couple and their families during this difficult time.
