Aryna Sabalenka, the 27-year-old tennis player from Belarus, made history by winning her fourth Grand Slam title at the US Open. The victory came in 2023, and she successfully defended her title in 2025.

Sabalenka's journey to the top was not without its challenges. In 2022, her serve deteriorated, leading to defeats and contemplation of retirement. However, she rebuilt her serve under the tutelage of biomechanics guru Gavin MacMillan, and her new-found mental durability has been a key factor in her recent success.

In the final match against Amanda Anisimova at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Sabalenka demonstrated her maturity and composure, winning in straight sets (6-3, 7-6). Despite an incident where an umpire had to check on her well-being, Sabalenka navigated awkward moments with calm authority.

Sabalenka's coach, Anton Dubrov, attributes her success to her finding a balance between her professional and personal life. Dubrov suggests that a work-life balance helps athletes feel more confident and safe on the court. Jason Stacy, Sabalenka's fitness trainer, concurs, stating that Sabalenka's emotions can significantly influence her performance. As Sabalenka matures and gains experience, she is learning to manage and control her emotions better, according to Stacy.

Sabalenka's victory was also attributed to her happiness off the court. Dubrov believes that happiness outside the court has allowed Sabalenka to flourish on the court. Sabalenka reflected on a previous outburst and considered it a tough lesson that helped her in many ways. She later apologized for her behaviour and vowed to ensure it never happens again.

In the past, Sabalenka has struggled with letting her emotions get the better of her, as shown by her response after an agonizing defeat to Coco Gauff in the French Open final in June. However, her recent performances suggest that she is learning from her mistakes and growing as a player and a person.

Sabalenka's journey to the top is a testament to her resilience and determination. Her ability to find balance, manage her emotions, and stay focused on her goals has made her a force to be reckoned with in the world of tennis. As she continues to grow and evolve, there is no doubt that Sabalenka will continue to make history on the court.
