Action against Global Telephone Scam Network

The German government is stepping up its efforts to combat telephone scams, which have become increasingly sophisticated in recent times. In a statement, Thomas Strobl, Deputy Minister-President and Minister of the Interior, addressed the issue of criminal activities via telephone.

Strobl's statement concerned several types of scams, including those involving fake police officers, grandparent scams, and shock calls. These criminal activities are designed to target elderly people and relieve them of their savings.

The German State Criminal Office of Baden-Württemberg has made significant strides in this fight, successfully disrupting the activities of internationally organized telephone scammers. Some of these criminals are highly organized, making it crucial for the government to work closely with international partner agencies.

This successful measure demonstrates strong cooperation with international partner agencies, particularly the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which is involved in the context of the 2025 phone fraud scandals. The ITU recommended the establishment of the mobile device registry (RAM) in the Democratic Republic of Congo to combat fake and stolen phones, directly relating to the telephone-related fraud cases reported.

Thomas Strobl expressed his gratitude to all involved personnel for their great commitment in this fight against telephone scams.
