Actions Taken by Geestland Commission on October 21-22, 2024: Flagging Drivers Involved in Accident-Prone Situations and Halting Their Journeys

The Geestland Police Station carried out targeted checks for alcohol and drug-impaired drivers from October 21st to 22nd, 2024. The checks, which were both stationary and mobile, were spread throughout the area of responsibility of the Geestland Police Station. This area includes the city of Geestland, part of the Wurster North Sea Coast municipality, and the A27.

During the operation, a total of 230 vehicles and 244 people were checked. The goal of these conversations was to achieve lasting behavioral changes in the affected persons and to raise awareness among all road users.

Sadly, several individuals were found to be impaired. A 35-year-old from Bremerhaven had a breath alcohol concentration of just under 1.6 per thousand and presented a suspected fake driver's license. Another 38-year-old from Bremerhaven had an alcohol concentration of over 0.5 per thousand. Two drivers aged 30 and 45 were under the influence of drugs.

Five drivers were not allowed to continue their journey after the check. The impaired drivers will face a criminal or traffic offense proceeding.

Blood samples were taken from these drivers for further analysis. The Geestland Police Station continues to emphasise the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to be sober and alert behind the wheel.
