Fresh pirate cast member announced for The Pirate Outdoor production - Actor selected for the role in Pirates of the Caribbean series
Grevesmühlen Pirate Open Air Concludes Successful 2025 Season
The 2025 season of the Grevesmühlen Pirate Open Air, located in Northwest Mecklenburg, has come to a close after 68 performances. Despite facing challenges, including 18 days of rain in July, the season was a success, according to Peter Venzmer, the 70-year-old founding artistic director.
The audience for the season was great, Venzmer stated, without disclosing specific visitor numbers. The crew of the Pirate Open Air shared this sentiment, expressing satisfaction with the season despite the significant weather challenges.
The 2025 play, titled "The Pact with the Devil", concluded the cycle "The fateful encounters of Capt'n Flint" after 20 episodes. Benjamin Kernen, the lead actor for the past season, is stepping down from the role after 50 years, but will remain as the director and is expected to appear on stage in different roles for the upcoming season.
Next year, there will be a transition play before the new cycle "The Flint Family - Once a pirate, always a pirate" begins. This new cycle will tell the backstory of Joshua Flint, who grows up as an orphan in the Florida Keys and becomes a pirate after a pirate attack.
As for the new leading actor for the Grevesmühlen Pirate Open Air, no public announcement has been made yet. The Störtebeker Festival on Rügen, a much larger event, ends on September 13, leaving the spotlight on the Grevesmühlen Pirate Open Air as it prepares for its next season.
The 2025 season ended on Saturday evening with a fireworks display after the last performance. Venzmer expressed his satisfaction with the season, looking forward to the new cycle and the future of the Grevesmühlen Pirate Open Air.
