Actress Marlyne Barrett Announces Departure from 'Chicago Med' Prior to Season 11

In the world of medical drama, Chicago Med continues to captivate audiences on NBC. The show, now gearing up for its eleventh season, will see the return of Dr. Will Halstead, played by Nick Gehlfuss, and the introduction of a new guest star in the premiere episode, according to recent reports. However, one familiar face will be absent for a while.

Marlyne Barrett, who plays ER nurse Maggie Lockwood, has announced her temporary departure from the series. Barrett, one of the three original Chicago Med actors still part of the show's cast, revealed her decision for personal reasons.

Barrett's character, a stalwart of the show since its first episode, has been a source of strength and compassion in the hectic environment of the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. Her absence will undoubtedly leave a void, but the news does not specify the time frame for her departure.

In a September 2024 interview with People, Barrett shared that after 30 rounds of chemotherapy, she is now in "complete remission" from ovarian and uterine cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 2022. Her bravery and resilience have been an inspiration to many, and her fans will eagerly await her return.

Meanwhile, the show must go on. S. Epatha Merkerson and Oliver Platt, who play Dr. Sharon Goodwin and Dr. Daniel Charles respectively, will continue to guide the team at Gaffney. Shawn Hatosy's son, Cassius Hatosy, will make a guest appearance in the Season 11 premiere.

Daniel Kyri, who played Darren Ritter on Chicago Fire, has also teased a limited time return after his series exit was announced in April. The exact details of his return are yet to be revealed.

Chicago Med Season 11 premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 1 on NBC, with next-day streaming on Peacock. For those who haven't caught up with the previous seasons, all ten seasons are streaming on Peacock.

As Barrett takes a break from Chicago Med, we wish her a speedy recovery and a quick return to the series. Until then, we'll be tuning in to see how the Gaffney team navigates the challenges of the medical world.
