Adjusted Schedule Yields Nationwide Enhancements
In a significant move for rail travel in Baden-Württemberg, Minister Winfried Hermann announced a new record for rail travel in the state, with concrete improvements in rail services for passengers.
Starting this December, passengers travelling between Kaiserstuhl and the Black Forest will no longer need to change trains in Freiburg on Sundays. This is just one of the many changes that promise to make rail travel more convenient for passengers.
On Saturdays, two connected train units are being deployed instead of one on 21 trains, and on Sundays, on 34 trains on the Breisgau S-Bahn. This move aims to address the high occupancy on these routes, offering a total of 4,200 additional seats.
Another exciting development is the introduction of the RE 71, which will run every two hours between Mühlacker and Heidelberg, providing a new direct connection to Heidelberg.
In the Lindau Area, many improvements have been made for the timetable change, including changes in traffic and public transport. Notably, trains running between Freiburg and Titisee will now run at a uniform 30-minute interval throughout the week.
The private Austrian railway company WESTbahn now serves the state capital, offering trains from Stuttgart to Vienna twice daily. WESTbahn offers up to 50% discount for holders of the BahnCard and the Germany ticket, with tickets starting at 28.99 euros per route.
WESTbahn trains from Stuttgart to Vienna depart at 7:12 and 15:12, taking around six and a half hours. The Nightjet of the Austrian Federal Railways continues to run at 20:29 towards Vienna and other destinations.
In the realm of regional connections, the Nuremberg S-Bahn will be extended to the Hohenlohe district town of Schwäbisch Hall and Crailsheim. This extension doubles the number of regional connections between Crailsheim and Nuremberg. Four extra RE trains will run between Freiburg and Altglashütten-Falkau or Schluchsee and back on weekends.
The RE 90 train on the route between Crailsheim and Nuremberg will be relieved by the new S-Bahn service. All previous IRE trains in Baden-Württemberg will run as Regional Express (RE) trains from now on.
The first S-Bahn in Crailsheim will depart at 05:11, and the last connection will be at 23:34. For the 2025 timetable change, no significant improvements or comprehensive changes are planned for the Lindau area; the schedules will largely remain unchanged with only minor adjustments on some railway and bus lines.
These improvements are expected to enhance the rail travel experience for passengers in Baden-Württemberg, making it more comfortable, convenient, and connected.
