Landshut Introduces Process Mentor for Youth Welfare Services

The city of Landshut has taken a significant step forward in its commitment to supporting families with children who have special needs. In May, Janine Brabender started working as the municipal process mentor in the youth welfare office.

Brabender, who brings a wealth of knowledge from her six years of experience in stationary integration assistance and the general social services department, is a trusted and contact person for many families. Her advisory services are designed to be comprehensible, perceivable, and understandable for everyone.

The process mentor's role is to discuss the prerequisites for support offers, explain procedural processes, help with the application and use of services, and act as a trusted intermediary if necessary. Brabender emphasizes that everyone must be able to understand what the process is about.

Consultations with Brabender can take place at the town hall, in various facilities, as home visits, or online and by phone. She can be reached by phone at 0871/882316 or by email at janine.brabender@ourwebsite. Further information about the offer can be found at www.ourwebsite/verfahrenslotsin.

Brabender advises and accompanies young people up to the age of 27, as well as their parents or legal guardians. The process mentor currently supports around ten families with various requirements. She offers support for children and youth with special needs and their families, including early support, aids, stationary or outpatient support, such as school accompaniment or leisure assistance.

The process mentor's services also include supporting potential claims for benefits in the field of integration assistance and guiding those affected through the application process.

The Children and Youth Strengthening Act (KJSG), effective since June 2021, reinforces an inclusive approach in children and youth welfare. This law aligns with the process mentor's mission to ensure that all families receive the support they need.

It's important to note that a diagnosed disability is not a prerequisite for seeking help from the process mentor. Consultations with Brabender are free and confidential.

This initiative by the city of Landshut is part of a broader movement. In May 2021, the city of Frankfurt am Main established a position for a process mentor in the field of child and youth services to support families with children suffering from physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities.

Brabender's work is a testament to the city's commitment to providing accessible and comprehensive support for families in need. If you or someone you know could benefit from the process mentor's services, don't hesitate to reach out.
