Advocates for socialism push for enhanced public bus access to the urban medical center
In the bustling city of Solingen, positive changes are afoot for the municipal hospital. With the addition of departments and staff from the closed St. Lukas Clinic, the hospital is expanding its services, and this growth has led to a pressing need for improved transportation options.
The hospital's supervisory board member, Iris Preuß-Buchholz, is a key figure in these developments. She, along with Ernst Lauterjung, deputy parliamentary group chair of the public utilities' supervisory board, are working together to address the issue.
During a recent discussion of the public utility's economic plan, the need for improved bus service to the hospital was highlighted. The cost estimate for this improvement runs into the six-figure range, a significant investment that the public utilities alone cannot bear due to existing cost pressure.
However, concrete proposals from the transport department offer a promising solution. These proposals include a significant increase in bus frequency, aimed at making the hospital more accessible for both hospital employees and visitors.
The idea of financing the additional costs through the guaranteed purchase of Germany tickets for hospital employees is also being considered. Negotiations on this matter are necessary to find a fair balance between the hospital and the public utilities.
The SPD parliamentary group is advocating for a swift solution to this issue. Iris Preuß-Buchholz, the parliamentary group chair of the SPD, supports the improvement of the bus service as a logical continuation of the positive developments at the hospital.
Many visitors and relatives of patients are also a consideration in the demand for improved bus service. The construction of a new pallet parking garage at the hospital aims to make it easier to reach by car, but the focus remains on improving public transportation.
As discussions continue, the hope is that a mutually beneficial solution will be found, ensuring that the hospital remains accessible to all who need it. The improved bus service is set to be a significant step forward in the ongoing journey of progress for Solingen's municipal hospital.
