Senator Robert Jackson Advocates for Worker Protections and Labor Rights

Senator Robert Jackson, a long-standing advocate for workers' rights, continues to make waves in the political sphere. Based in New York's 31st Senate District, which encompasses parts of Manhattan's West Side, Washington Heights, and Inwood, Jackson is a resident of the community he serves and is often seen engaging with local residents.

Jackson's legislative priorities for the new year focus on worker protection and labor rights advancement. He chairs the Civil Service and Pensions Committee and is a member of the Labor Committee. One of his key objectives is to protect public employees' collective bargaining rights from being overridden by existing civil service laws.

In his role as a senator, Jackson is deeply involved with the Education Committee, where he is spearheading efforts to reform Tier 6. His focus is on prioritizing stronger apprenticeship pipelines and addressing the needs of underserved communities. Jackson is also pushing for laws that would increase the minimum wage for food service workers, prevent wage theft, ensure workers get paid for losses, and require a good reason for firing private-sector employees.

To help job seekers access these opportunities, two job centers will be established in New York City in the next two years. These job centers will provide information about available jobs without specifying the specific industries or sectors. The job opportunities will be available to citizens and green card holders who register to look for work. Notably, these job centers will offer information about jobs with prevailing wages.

Affordable housing for everyone is another priority for Senator Jackson. He is a member of the Housing and Buildings Committee, and his efforts in this area are aimed at ensuring that everyone has access to affordable housing.

Looking ahead, Jackson will deliver a keynote speech at City & State's Labor Power 100 event on Thursday. His speech is expected to address his ongoing work and future plans for protecting and advancing worker rights.

Despite extensive searches, there are no current results addressing Senator Jackson's priorities for supporting low-wage workers who are not unionized in the coming years. However, his focus on low-wage workers involves communicating job opportunities and ensuring they have access to jobs with prevailing wages.

One of Jackson's recent achievements includes reducing the vesting period for pension systems, moving it from ten years to five years. This change is expected to benefit many public employees who are nearing retirement.

Senator Robert Jackson's dedication to workers' rights is a testament to his three-decade-long career as a civil servant and union leader. His efforts continue to resonate with the community, and his advocacy for worker protection and labor rights advancement is eagerly anticipated.
