Prince Laurent of Belgium, the younger brother of King Philippe, has confirmed that he is the father of an adult son, Clément Vandenkerckhove. The confirmation comes ahead of a documentary titled "Clément, zoon van..." airing on Flemish TV station VTM.

According to reports, Prince Laurent and Wendy van Wanten, better known as Iris Vandenkerckhove, met at a fashion show in Paris in the mid-1990s. However, details about their relationship and Clément's siblings, if any, have not been disclosed.

Clément, born in 2000, is entitled to the title "His Royal Highness Clément, Prince of Belgium, Prince of Saxe-Coburg" according to royal regulations. His mother, Wendy van Wanten, is a Flemish actress and singer, known for her stage name Wendy Van Wanten.

Rumors about Prince Laurent having an illegitimate son have been circulating for years, but this is the first official confirmation. The statement from Prince Laurent was made based on understanding and respect for those involved.

The upcoming documentary may provide further details about Clément's relationship with Prince Laurent and Wendy van Wanten. The trailer suggests that Clément will speak for the first time about his paternity and answer the question: Who is his father?

Prince Laurent has three children with his wife Princess Claire: Princess Louise (21) and the twins Prince Nicolas and Prince Aymeric (19). Clément, however, is not included in this list. The acknowledgement of paternity by Prince Laurent does not affect the Belgian line of succession.

Like Clément, Delphine Boël, the daughter of former King Albert II recognized as his child in 2020, was also given the title Princess of Belgium and the same rights as King Albert II's other children.

Prince Laurent has chosen not to make any further comments on the matter. He and Wendy van Wanten attended the wedding of British Prince Edward together in 1991, hinting at a past connection between the two.

The documentary is set to air on Tuesday evening, promising to shed light on a private chapter of Prince Laurent's life.
