Agency Shifts Dialogue Towards Police Funding Reevaluation
In a move to shed light on the controversial concept of defunding the police, Huge, a renowned Brooklyn-based agency, has devised an innovative solution. The distillation of the defund the police movement into three impactful words - Defund to Refund - serves as the cornerstone of their latest project.
To bring this concept to life, Huge partnered with three Black artists: Kahlil Joseph, Tiona Nekkia McClodden, and Jibade-Khalil Huffman. These artists were tasked with depicting scenarios where nonviolent community programs could replace police intervention, offering a more peaceful alternative.
The immersive and comprehensive platform developed by Huge combines data, design, and storytelling to present real-life examples of situations where community programs could have been implemented instead of police intervention, thereby potentially avoiding violence.
The platform does not shy away from the costs of police brutality and instead highlights the benefits of community support services. By offering a platform for these artists to share their visions, Huge aims to spark conversation and encourage the public to consider the potential of defunding the police and investing in community programs instead.
