Airline Company Ryanair to Expand Free Baggage Luggage Allowance Next Month
Ryanair Announces Changes to Luggage Rules and Staff Incentives
Ryanair, the popular budget airline, has announced several changes to its luggage rules and staff incentives. The changes aim to streamline the boarding process and encourage passengers to adhere to the airline's luggage guidelines.
Starting next month, Ryanair will increase the size of the free cabin bag allowed with every ticket. The new dimensions for the free cabin bag will be 40cm x 30cm x 20cm, a change from the previous 40cm x 20cm x 25cm. This adjustment aligns with the EU's standardized free luggage allowances across the region.
Passengers traveling with Ryanair should be aware of the strict luggage rules. Those who bring oversized bags to the boarding gate will be charged a fee of up to £75 for putting the bag in the hold. About 200,000 passengers per year are currently charged luggage fees at airport gates by Ryanair.
To incentivize staff in intercepting oversized luggage, Ryanair is planning to increase the bonus from €1.50 to €2.50 per bag, effective from November. The airline's CEO, Michael O'Leary, has expressed his determination to continue working on getting rid of passengers who are charged luggage fees at airport gates.
Mr. O'Leary made it clear that he makes "absolutely no apology" for catching people who are "scamming the system". He also expressed confusion over the number of passengers who still try to bring oversized rucksacks through the gate, stating that they will be charged for the luggage.
In a separate development, Ryanair carried 200 million passengers in the year to the end of March. The airline is also scrapping the monthly cap of 80 euros for incentives paid to staff, although there is no available information regarding when or if the bonus for employees who catch passengers with oversized luggage will be increased.
These changes are part of Ryanair's ongoing efforts to improve the passenger experience while maintaining its reputation for affordability and efficiency.
