Akio Fujimoto's film, "Lost Land," secures a Special Prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Venice International Film Festival Awards Two Significant Prizes in September 2021

The 82nd Venice International Film Festival, held in Venice, Italy, concluded in September 2021 with the awarding of two prestigious prizes.

The Golden Lion, the best film award, was given to Jim Jarmusch's "Father Mother Sister Brother." This film did not, however, take home the Special Orizzonti Jury Prize. That honour was bestowed upon Akio Fujimoto's "Lost Land."

"Lost Land" is a Japanese film based on the experiences of the Rohingya people, a Muslim minority persecuted in Myanmar. Fujimoto, the director, called for support for the Rohingya people who appeared in his film during his speech at the awards ceremony. He also expressed hope that the talent of the Rohingya people featured in his film will gain worldwide recognition. "Lost Land" is scheduled for release in Japan next spring.

The Silver Lion, or Grand Jury Prize, was awarded to Kaouther Ben Hania's "The Voice of Hind Rajab." This film is a Tunisian production, not Japanese, and is based on a true story. "The Voice of Hind Rajab" is about a girl who was killed in Gaza.

Kaouther Ben Hania directed "The Voice of Hind Rajab," which did not participate in the Orizzonti section of the Venice International Film Festival. The film did, however, win the Silver Lion, making it a significant achievement for Ben Hania and her team.

It's worth noting that the family "Father Mother Sister Brother" did not win any awards at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival.

The Venice International Film Festival is an annual event that showcases films from around the world and is considered one of the most important film festivals in the world. The 82nd edition of the festival took place on September 6.
