In a stunning turn of events at the US Open, 16-year-old Carlos Alcaraz has made history by becoming the first man since Roger Federer in 2015 to reach the final without dropping a set.

Alcaraz, who qualified for the US Open 2022 men's final before his opponent was determined, faced off against six-time US Open champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. The young Spaniard proved to be a formidable opponent, winning the match with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-2.

The match was a testament to Alcaraz's impressive serving, particularly in the first set where he didn't face a single break point. Djokovic, on the other hand, allowed only one break of serve by Alcaraz throughout the tournament, which came in the second set of this encounter.

Djokovic converted his only break point of the match in Alcaraz's first service game of the second set, but the young Spaniard responded with an outright flicked passing winner to bring up a break point. In the tiebreaker, Alcaraz won back-to-back points on his own serve while leading 5-4, securing the set and putting pressure on Djokovic.

The second set was quickly back on serve after the initial break, but Djokovic looked increasingly labored as the third set - and match - drifted toward an inevitable conclusion. Alcaraz produced 31 winners during the match, more than double Djokovic's tally, and handed his older opponent an early break courtesy of a double-fault in the third set.

After the match, Djokovic admitted to feeling tired, stating that he had enough energy to "battle" with Alcaraz for two sets but could not keep up with his opponent as the match moved into a third set. The world number one also expressed his doubts about competing against Alcaraz and rising star Jannik Sinner in best-of-five sets grand slam matches.

Despite the defeat, Djokovic remained positive, hinting that he would be open to playing more best-of-three set tournaments in 2026. The US Open final will be played on Sunday and will feature the winner of the semi-final between Jannik Sinner and Felix Auger-Aliassime.

As for Alcaraz, he will be aiming to make history once again by becoming the youngest US Open champion ever. The final promises to be an exciting showdown between two rising stars of men's tennis.
