Alcaraz Praises Rival Sinner Following US Open Victory, Calling Him More Important Than Family

In a thrilling showdown at the US Open 2025, Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious, securing his second major title and avenging his Wimbledon 2025 loss to Jannik Sinner.

Alcaraz, the third player in the Open Era to win multiple men's singles titles at the US Open before turning 23, clinched the victory with a 6-2 3-6 6-1 6-4 triumph over Sinner. With this win, Alcaraz now has a 10-5 head-to-head record against Sinner.

Sinner, who became the youngest player to reach five straight men's singles finals at grand slam events in the Open Era, put up a valiant effort but could not match Alcaraz's determination. The Italian applauded Alcaraz on his second US Open crown and praised his performance throughout the season.

Sinner's season has been nothing short of incredible, with him playing many big matches on big stages. Despite missing three months of the campaign due to a doping ban, Sinner's team has been supportive and understanding, and Sinner is grateful for the energy provided by the crowd during his matches.

Alcaraz's victory ensured he will become the world number one for the first time since September 2023. His coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, was present at the US Open 2025 to witness the history-making moment.

Alcaraz and Sinner have dominated the ATP-level events since the start of 2024, winning 16 out of the 17 tournaments they have both appeared in, with the exception being the Madrid Open. Alcaraz's latest win at the US Open marks his fourth victory over Sinner in six overall meetings, further solidifying his dominance in their rivalry.

In a jovial moment, Alcaraz joked about seeing Sinner more often than his own family after their fifth consecutive final. Sinner, in good spirits, acknowledged the humour and appreciated the friendly banter.

Alcaraz's impressive feat makes him the first player to win multiple major titles on all three surfaces before his 23rd birthday since the US Open switched to a hard court in 1978. As the new world number one, Alcaraz is poised to continue his reign at the top of men's tennis.
