Alexander Dennis and KleanDrive Partner for Electric Repowering Services

Alexander Dennis, a leading bus manufacturer, has announced a new partnership with KleanDrive to offer electric repowering services for diesel buses. The partnership aims to eliminate tailpipe emissions and extend the life of existing vehicle fleets.

The AD Repower solution, as the service is named, is designed specifically for the Enviro400 double decker bus, a popular choice in Britain for many years. The first conversion of a diesel-powered Enviro400 bus is scheduled for the first half of 2026.

Equipmake, a company specialising in plug-and-play electric drive systems and control software, will provide the technology for the AD Repower program. KleanDrive's 352 kWh CARL lithium-iron-phosphate batteries are expected to provide a driving range of 195 miles at 50% passenger capacity per single charge.

The Voith Electrical Drive System (VEDS) motor and power electronics will be installed in a skid system as part of the AD Repower solution. KleanDrive will replace the diesel engine and transmission with its electric drivetrain system and control software, along with the Voith Electrical Drive System (VEDS) motor and power electronics.

The design of the AD Repower solution is praised for its ease of installation and maintenance. Each converted vehicle will maintain its original interior layout, allowing for full seated capacity. The technology used in the AD Repower solution is also used in Alexander Dennis' new electric buses.

Alexander Dennis expresses confidence in offering both new electric buses and repowering services as a quick route to fleet decarbonization. The partnership with KleanDrive is anticipated to deliver the benefits of AD Repower, aligning with Alexander Dennis' reputation for quality.

After the initial pilot scheme in the United Kingdom, the AD Repower solution will be expanded to other models and markets. The partnership between Alexander Dennis and KleanDrive is fully supported by Alexander Dennis and is backed by the AD24 service, providing customers with peace of mind.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards a more sustainable future for public transportation, as Alexander Dennis continues to lead the way in the electrification of bus fleets.
