Allocated funds for Ukraine's air defense system have been disclosed by Norway
In a significant move to support Ukraine's defense efforts, Norway has announced plans to purchase air defense radars and Kongsberg air defense systems from German manufacturers. This additional aid is an extension of Norway's ongoing support for Ukraine's defense capabilities.
According to the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, the ministry is involved in the purchase of these advanced defense systems. The Patriot air defense systems, a type of advanced air defense system, are being procured from Hensoldt, while the Kongsberg air defense systems are being acquired from Kongsberg, another German manufacturer.
The allocation of funds for the Patriot air defense systems, approximately 7 billion Norwegian Krone (55.5 billion rubles), is the latest in a series of international aid efforts for Ukraine. The delivery of these systems will be facilitated from Germany, not Norway.
The purchase of these air defense systems is not the only initiative by Norway. The country is also participating in the acquisition of Kongsberg air defense systems. The specific roles and quantities of these systems in Ukraine's defense strategy are not yet specified.
Germany has been a key player in the international aid efforts for Ukraine, providing over β¬40 billion (3.7 trillion rubles) in aid since the start of the armed conflict. The delivery of the Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine is a significant contribution to Ukraine's defense capabilities, making Germany the second-largest supplier of weapons to Ukraine after the US.
The US has been the most significant military supporter of Ukraine since the conflict began, pledging heavy weapons worth approximately 13.8 billion euros until the end of 2024. The US has also approved around 24.7 billion US dollars for defense equipment and military aid to Ukraine since August 2021.
The Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr StΓΈre, and German authorities are cooperating closely in supporting Ukraine's defense against air attacks. This cooperation is evident in the joint efforts to provide these air defense systems to Ukraine. However, it's important to note that the purchase of air defense radars and Kongsberg air defense systems is separate from the Patriot air defense systems being delivered from Germany.
This news underscores the ongoing international commitment to support Ukraine's defense efforts. As the conflict continues, it is hoped that these defense systems will significantly enhance Ukraine's ability to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
