Almaty to Purchase 233 New Public Transport Vehicles
Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan, is set to enhance its public transportation system with the addition of 30 electric buses, as announced by the German company MAN. This purchase is part of a larger plan to modernise Almaty's bus fleet, bringing the total number of electric buses in service to 14.
Currently, 18 electric buses are in operation on Route No.133, which connects the Ojet microdistrict with the city center. The resumption of service on this route has resulted in an improved frequency, with buses now operating with an 8-9 minute interval.
The city's development strategy, inspired by the principle of polycentrism, aims to ensure that all necessary social infrastructure, including public transport, is within walking distance. This strategy is reflected in the planned opening of five city routes and ten suburban routes, including areas like Nura, Kasyk, Novy, and Shanyrak, following resident requests.
In addition to the electric buses, 150 gas-powered Golden Dragon buses are also being purchased for Almaty's public transportation. These next-generation buses are eco-friendly, running on gas instead of diesel or gasoline, and are equipped with internal and external surveillance systems, automatic stop updates, and driver assistants.
City buses in Almaty are designed with the comfort and convenience of passengers in mind. They feature air conditioning systems, facilities for people with disabilities, and special outlets for passengers to charge their phones. Each city bus can accommodate up to 70 people.
Last year, four new city routes were launched in Almaty, and more are expected to follow. The city's bus parks, numbering 20, are prepared to accommodate the growing fleet. Carriers plan to acquire around 30 electric buses to serve major city routes in the future.
The expansion of Almaty's public transportation system is a significant step towards improving the city's infrastructure and making it more accessible for its residents. With the addition of these new buses, commuters can look forward to a more efficient and eco-friendly travel experience.
