Alpinist from Russia endures a seven-day ordeal on a mountain summit due to a fractured limb
Stranded Climber Natalia Faces New Evacuation Attempt
Natalia, a Russian mountaineer, has been stranded on Mount Victory in Kyrgyzstan since her injury on August 12, and her evacuation has been delayed due to adverse weather conditions.
Tragedy struck four years ago when Natalia's husband was paralyzed on Peak Khan-Tengri. Despite this, Natalia stayed with him until his evacuation, but he could not be saved. A year later, she returned to Peak Khan-Tengri to install a memorial plaque in memory of her husband.
On August 12, while descending Mount Victory, Natalia sustained an injury. Two foreigners attempted to pull her out from the mountain on August 13, but were unsuccessful. A rescue group attempted to reach her by helicopter two days ago, but the helicopter encountered turbulence and made a hard landing.
However, there is some hope for Natalia as a new evacuation attempt is planned for today, if weather conditions permit. Unfortunately, there is no information about a rescue team attempting to evacuate her from Victory Peak today; rescuers have reportedly given up, believing it is impossible to reach her location.
