Amendment 25.2025 Expresses Approval for Certain Actions Regarding Privacy Violations and Data Collection
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has issued a memorandum addressed to Federal Records Management Contacts, inviting federal agencies to comment on the draft General Records Schedules (GRS). The draft schedules under review include GRS 2.2, Employee Management Records, GRS 2.8, Employee Ethics Records, GRS 4.5, Digitizing Records, GRS 4.6, Insider Threat Program Records, and GRS 6.8, Temporary Commissions, Committees, and Boards Records.
The revisions to the General Records Schedules are aimed at making them more machine-implementable. Agencies can download the review package and comment form from NARA's website. NARA appreciates agencies taking the time to review the draft General Records Schedules and provide comments.
The deadline for sending comment forms for the draft General Records Schedules is June 6, 2025. If agencies have any questions, they can contact [email protected]. Federal authorities such as the Federal Personnel Office (Bundespersonalamt), the Federal Ethics Commission (Bundesethikkommission), and the Federal Office for Information Security (Bundesamt fΓΌr Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik) have the opportunity to comment on the draft revision of general retention schedules by the same date.
William Fischer, the Chief Records Officer for the U.S. Government (Acting), emphasised the importance of federal agencies' input in the review process. He stated, "We value the expertise and insights of our federal partners, and their comments are essential in ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of the General Records Schedules."
The review packages for the draft General Records Schedules are available on NARA's website. Comment forms for the draft General Records Schedules should be sent to [email protected]. NARA looks forward to receiving the feedback from federal agencies and working together to improve the General Records Schedules. The memorandum was dated May 7, 2025.
