American tennis player of Russian descent, who criticized her "disrespectful" American opponents, wept after blowing a substantial lead in a loss at the US Open

In a dramatic turn of events at the recent tennis tournament, Russian player Anna Kalinskaya found herself on the losing end of a doubles match against McCartney Kessler and Peyton Stearns. The duo, composed of the American Stearns and German Kessler, clinched victory with a score of 7-5, 6-4.

However, the aftermath of the match was marked by an exchange between Kalinskaya and Stearns, which has since stirred controversy. Kalinskaya accused Stearns of repeatedly disrespecting her beaten rivals, stating, "I expected a little respect. I haven't seen you apologize even once."

The controversy stems from several instances during the match where Stearns' shots hit the net and bounced over, yet no apology was forthcoming. Kalinskaya expressed her disappointment towards Stearns and Kessler, adding fuel to the fire.

The original error on match point that handed Stearns and Kessler the victory was made by Kalinskaya herself, a fact that has not escaped the notice of many. In a previous tournament, Kalinskaya had defeated Laura Siegemund, setting her up for a challenging match against Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek, which she unfortunately lost in the third round of the US Open.

After the match, a visibly upset Kalinskaya was seen in tears in a corridor as she made her way back to her locker room. Stearns, on the other hand, did not give any public comment about Kalinskaya's claims.

Social media has also been abuzz with the incident. American viewers sided with Stearns and Kessler, while fans watching the doubles game expressed support for Kalinskaya. Stearns reposted a celebratory post from Danielle Wolf, but did not address Kalinskaya's claims directly. Wolf's post included a taunt towards Kalinskaya, referring to her error on match point, which Stearns later attempted to cover up by posting three American flags over the message.

Kalinskaya will have a chance to respond to her critics on Saturday, but faces a challenging match against Swiatek. The incident serves as a reminder of the high-stakes, emotional world of professional tennis, where every point and every word can carry significant weight.
