"Among Us, a game by Marina Pohl"
Marina Pohl, a renowned artist, is currently showcasing her latest solo exhibition titled "among us" at the Municipal Gallery in Berlin. The exhibition, which runs from Thursday, September 4, to 28, explores themes of our inner wilderness and hidden aspects of ourselves.
Pohl's work is known for its exploration of identity, isolation, melancholy, and time in painting. Her art combines elements of plant, spiritual, and human nature, creating visual spaces for subtle states and aspects of ourselves that we often keep hidden.
The paintings in the "among us" exhibition serve as a resonance chamber for what affects us beneath the surface. Pohl uses thin layers of glue and oil paint on canvas, merging and protecting these elements to form a unity. These layers intersect, overlap, or wash out in places, adding depth and complexity to her creations.
The theme of the exhibition, "among us," refers to the exploration of hidden aspects of ourselves. On Saturday, September 13, at 8 PM, there will be a conversation with the artist and a presentation of the exhibition catalog as part of the Night of Museums. All visitors are welcome to listen and participate in the event.
Marina Pohl, born in Ingolstadt and currently living and working in Berlin, has exhibited her work in Salzburg, Munich, New York, the Netherlands, Berlin, and Vienna. She completed her studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Academy of Arts in Vienna, and the UDK in Berlin.
In 2024, Pohl was the recipient of the Klaus W. Sporer Prize. A solo exhibition at the joint federal committee in Berlin is planned for 2026. The upcoming exhibition will include paintings, graphics, and a spatial installation.
The Municipal Gallery's opening hours for the exhibition are Thursday to Sunday, 12 PM to 6 PM. Visitors are encouraged to take a journey into their inner world through Pohl's captivating artwork and thought-provoking themes.
