Ancient Manor House, Previously a Royal Hunting Retreat, now up for sale
Brigstock Manor, a Grade II* Listed Gem in Northamptonshire, Goes up for Sale
Brigstock Manor, a historic manor house nestled in the picturesque village of Brigstock near Kettering, Northamptonshire, has been listed for sale at a guide price of £3m. This 9,700sq ft manor, steeped in history and grandeur, offers elegant, well-ordered living space and boasts many period pieces of note.
Built by Thomas Montague in the late 15th century and extended by Roger Montague in the mid 16th century, Brigstock Manor has a rich history. It was later owned by the Dukes of Buccleuch, who had it restored in the mid 18th century and extended in the late 1880s by Northamptonshire architect J. A. Gotch. The manor served as a home to the film producer and director Herbert Wilcox from 1936 to 1945, and after his tenure, it was owned by British Steel until 1998. Following British Steel, the manor again reverted to private residential use.
The present owners have completed an eight-year-long refurbishment of the manor, preserving its historical charm while modernising its amenities. On the first floor, one can find the Solar, a family room, four bedrooms, and three bathrooms. The manor's second floor houses four further bedrooms and two family bathrooms.
Brigstock Manor's grandeur is evident in its many period pieces, including a fine Jacobean main staircase, a 13th-century Great Hall, and a vaulted first-floor 'Solar'. The manor is set in four acres of gorgeous gardens and has medieval origins as a hunting lodge within the Royal Forest of Rockingham.
Brigstock Manor is currently for sale through Barclay Macfarlane of Savills. This historic manor house presents a unique opportunity for someone to own a piece of Northamptonshire's rich history while enjoying the elegance and comfort of a modern home.
