Medical Trial in France: Accusations against an Anesthesiologist for Potentially Toxicating 30 Patients - Anesthesiologist Poisoned Multiple Patients in French Court Case

In a shocking turn of events, anesthesiologist Frédéric P. is currently standing trial in Besançon, France, accused of poisoning at least 30 patients. The trial, which is being closely followed by RTL, is scheduled to deliver a verdict on December 19.

The prosecution claims that Pechier intentionally contaminated infusions with harmful substances meant to cause a heart attack during surgery. If convicted, the former doctor faces a life sentence.

Pechier, who is alleged to have presented himself as a specialist in several cases involving the resuscitation of affected patients, is charged with poisoning healthy patients to cause trouble for colleagues with whom he had disputes. It is further alleged that Pechier changed the poison multiple times to avoid suspicion.

One notable case involves a 36-year-old patient who survived a heart attack. Investigations found a potentially lethal dose of potassium chloride in an infusion, a substance that is not only used in medical procedures but also in executions.

Pechier's lawyers plan to plead not guilty. The anesthesiologist told RTL he is not going to court unwillingly. Lawyer Frédéric Berna represents several of the approximately 150 civil parties.

The trial will initially focus on more recent cases that led to the indictment in 2017. The case involves deliberate poisonings with no connection to the respective victims.

The trial in Besançon continues, with the outcome eagerly anticipated by all involved.
