Iga Świątek, the 9th-ranked player in the WTA rankings, and Anett Kontaveit, currently 31st, are set to face off in the quarterfinals of the French Open on June 5th, 2021, at 12:00 (Moscow time). This will be their first professional encounter.

Świątek has been in impressive form this year, winning tournaments in Adelaide and Rome. She started her French Open campaign successfully, defeating Slovenian Kaja Juvan (6/0, 7/5) in the first round and eliminating Swedish player Rebecca Peterson (6/1, 6/1) in the second round. In the ongoing tournament, she has won 20 out of 26 matches played.

On the other hand, Kontaveit has also had a strong year, winning 16 out of 23 matches. She reached the final of the Melbourne Trophy in February but was unable to complete the tournament due to schedule changes. Her notable performances include reaching the quarterfinals in Doha and Stuttgart. Kontaveit started her French Open strongly, defeating French player Kristina Mladenovic (6/2, 6/0) in the second round.
