The Senior and Honorary Department of the Volunteer Fire Department Bedburg-Hau recently held their summer festival, bringing together members, old and new, for an evening of camaraderie and reminiscing.

The event, held at the "Zur Dorfschmiede" inn in the district of Till-Moyland, was attended by Alfred Derks, the deputy mayor of the municipality, who expressed his respect and gratitude towards the members for sacrificing their leisure time for decades. He considered them a role model for the younger generation.

Fire Chief Klaus Elsmann addressed the gathering, emphasising that the Senior and Honorary Department is more than just a circle of former active members. He mentioned that the experiences, stories, and unity of the department are a treasure.

After the speeches, the focus was on socialising. Freshly grilled food and cool drinks were served, and there was much laughter as old stories came to life. The members exchanged memories of shared deployments, exercises, and experiences, demonstrating that the camaraderie in the Volunteer Fire Department has no expiration date.

Klaus Elsmann, Tobias Aschemann, and Tobias Lamers welcomed the attendees, while Alfred Derks expressed his admiration for the department, stating that the members are the heart of the camaraderie and remind the department of the true meaning of firefighting.

It was great that all members could come together for the event, according to Klaus Elsmann. He stated that the camaraderie in the Volunteer Fire Department, as shown by the members still standing together after their active time, is strong.
