Annual White Glove Event Happens for a Second Time
Article Title: Exploring the Kendrick Mansion: A Behind-the-Scenes Tour
The popular 'White Gloves Tour' of the Kendrick Mansion, a 13,748 square foot historic property built in 1913, has sold out for this year, but eager visitors can look forward to next summer's event.
Led by Sharie Shada, the tour offers a unique opportunity to access areas not normally open to the public. On August 20, attendees were encouraged to wear white gloves to protect the exhibits as they ventured through the mansion.
The tour began with a brief history of John B. Kendrick and the Kendrick Mansion, followed by a visit to the third floor ballroom. Here, guests were encouraged to look into the areas behind the walls, which were used for storage during the family's residence.
From the ballroom, the tour continued to the second floor, where the family bedrooms were located. Attendees were invited to walk out on the two balconies accessible from the bedrooms, providing a stunning view of the mansion's grandeur.
One of the highlights of the tour was the library, home to an old record player that played large, metal disks - one of the first 'music boxes' ever invented. The library also houses several other record players, as well as pianos and organs.
The basement of the mansion features a diorama of the OW Ranch, known as the "home ranch" where John Kendrick brought his bride in 1891. Despite several artifacts found at the OW Ranch and brought to the Trail End Museum being displayed in the diorama, the identity of who led the 'White Gloves Tour' in 2021 remains unknown, along with details about the next edition of this tour.
Sharie Shada mentioned that there are hidden storage areas in the Mansion, but during the tour, no secret passageways or hidden storage areas were revealed. She also stated that she has never found any secret passageways in the Mansion during her tenure.
The tour concluded with a visit to the first floor of the Kendrick Mansion, which houses the dining room, kitchen and butler's pantry, drawing room, and the library. Despite the tour being sold out for this year, those interested can look forward to next summer's event, where they too can experience the behind-the-scenes charm of the Kendrick Mansion.
