Annually held St. Augustine Parish car exhibition features over a hundred timeless automobiles from various decades on display
In the heart of Midlothian, Illinois, last year, the 7th Annual St. Augustine Parish Car Show took place on a Saturday morning, attracting over a hundred cars and their proud owners. The event, more than just a display of vehicles, was a social gathering for car enthusiasts to share their passion.
The show featured a diverse range of classic cars, from the sleek lines of Mustangs and Corvettes to the quirky charm of a VW wagon. But what truly caught the eye of the attendees were two standout vehicles: a 1965 bright blue Shelby Cobra, built by Ed McCormick from Frankfort, and a 1955 Chevy Bel Air, meticulously restored by Dennis Mahoney from Finley Park.
McCormick, a man who finds enjoyment in both building and driving his creations, showcased his 1965 Shelby Cobra. The kids at the show were particularly fond of the iconic car, its bright blue hue and roaring engine captivating their imagination.
Dennis Mahoney's 1955 Chevy Bel Air, a labor of love restored over a decade, was another highlight of the show. The car's gleaming paint job and polished chrome details were a testament to Mahoney's dedication and craftsmanship.
Both McCormick and Mahoney brought their self-built cars to the show, showcasing their passion for classic cars. However, neither has mentioned any plans for building another car at this time.
The car show was not just about the cars, but also about the community. It was a chance to see colourful classic cars spanning decades, but also to catch up with old friends and make new ones. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting, making it a memorable day for all who attended.
Jack Marquette, the Co-Chair of the St. Augustine Car Show, oversaw the event, ensuring it ran smoothly and provided a great atmosphere for car enthusiasts to socialize and share their passion. The 8th Annual St. Augustine Parish Car Show is yet to be dated, but with the success of the 7th edition, it is sure to be another exciting event for car lovers in Midlothian.
