Apartment blaze results in one fatality
In the early hours of this morning, a fire broke out on the third floor of a multi-family building located on Eichenstraße in Niederschoenhausen, Berlin. The fire was reported by an employee of a supported living facility and residents around 4:25 AM.
Firefighters were swiftly alerted and arrived at the scene to evacuate the building and extinguish the fire. The blaze was acoustically triggered, and a smoky smell was noticed on the affected floor.
Upon investigation, firefighters discovered a suspicious object in the apartment where the fire originated. Specialists from the Criminal Technical Institute of the State Criminal Office have since declared the object harmless. However, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, with preliminary investigations ongoing.
Tragically, a lifeless man was found in the apartment, suspected to be the 47-year-old resident. No further information about the deceased has been released.
The fire investigation has been taken over by a fire investigation unit of the State Criminal Office Berlin. The name of the investigator or the head of the fire investigation unit has not been publicly disclosed.
