Firefighter and Chimney Sweep Heroically Saves Man's Life

In a remarkable act of bravery, Wolfgang Mangold, a long-standing member of the fire department and a chimney sweep from Mengen, saved the life of a 42-year-old man. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in a multi-family house where the city has set up several social housing units.

The drama unfolded when Mangold, who is also a firefighter, was alerted to the fire by the beeping of a smoke alarm. He found the man asleep in his bed and had to wake him up and get him out. Mangold entered the house directly through an open door on the ground floor.

The fire was located in one of the rooms of the house. Mangold, who is known for his 30 years of chimney sweeping experience, didn't wear protective gear, but he used the Rautek rescue grip to pull the man out of the burning building on his knees. The man was subsequently taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation.

Investigations are underway against the 42-year-old for suspected negligent arson. The police suspect the man was drunk at the time of the incident. Mangold, however, considers his actions as just being in the right place at the right time.

Despite the harrowing experience, Mangold's family remains supportive. His wife Desiree is relieved that he's okay, and his children don't view him any differently than before. Mangold, for his part, doesn't see himself as a hero. He simply did what any firefighter would do in such a situation.
