Apple Announces New Smart Home Device and homeOS Software

Apple is set to expand its smart home offerings with the release of a new homeOS software and a new smart home device, according to recent reports. The new smart home device, which is expected to launch in 2026, will resemble the current HomePod with embedded speakers and feature a display approximately the size of two iPhones placed side by side.

The display on the new smart home device will serve as a control centre for various smart home accessories, allowing users to monitor home security cameras, make video calls, check the calendar, and stream media. The device will also offer iOS apps such as Calendar, Notes, and FaceTime, thanks to the new homeOS software, which Apple has developed in-house as a new operating system combining features from tvOS and watchOS for smart home devices.

In addition to the new smart home device, Apple is also expected to unveil its latest M4-powered computing lineup this week. The iPad Pro already features the M4 chip, and the MacBook Airs are expected to be refreshed with the M4 chips, although it might not be until January to March of 2025. The 14-inch MacBook Pro might get the base M4 chip, while the 16-inch MacBook Pro offerings will likely have either the M4 Pro or the M4 Max.

Two new Mac Minis will also be powered by the M4 and M4 Pro chips. However, a Mac Studio, which is reportedly in the works, is expected to be released at a later date.

Apple has also announced that it will focus on the smart home for the next two years. The company is reportedly developing a more premium smart home device that will retail for around $1,000 and feature a bigger screen controlled by a robotic limb. This premium smart home device will be released in 2026, along with the new homeOS software.

Overall, Apple's latest announcements indicate a focus on expanding its smart home offerings and providing users with more control and convenience in their homes. The new smart home device and homeOS software are expected to offer a seamless and intuitive user experience, making it easier than ever for users to manage their smart home devices.
