Apple Music expands its promotions via integration with TuneIn radio and the introduction of a feature for exporting playlists from Spotify.

Apple Music is making strides to attract a larger audience by partnering with digital radio platform TuneIn and introducing a new feature that allows users to import their Spotify libraries and playlists. This move comes as Apple Music tries to close the gap with market leader Spotify.

As of the end of 2024, Apple Music holds a 25% market share in the US, a slight decrease from the previous year. Spotify, on the other hand, has seen an increase in its share, now standing at 37%. Amazon Music and YouTube Music maintain a steady presence, with around 20% and 10% market shares, respectively.

The new import option, first mentioned in May 2021, is now available in several countries, including Germany, France, UK, USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, New Zealand, and Australia. The feature, which can be initiated via the iPhone settings under "Apps" and "Music," or via Apple's music portal through a browser, supports not only Spotify but also "other music services," as mentioned in a support document available in German.

The transfer process attempts to match songs from Spotify and its competitors with Apple's offer. If the tool fails to match a song, a warning is displayed. Apple is collaborating with the service SongShift for this new feature.

Apple Music 1, the most well-known of the six radio stations operated by Apple, often features stars in interviews and performances. The other stations include Hits Hits Hits, Country, Musica Uno, Club, and Chill.

While Apple's efforts to attract Spotify users are notable, Spotify still leads in music streaming. The iTunes Music Store, once the market leader in music downloads, has now moved to the pursuer position.

Despite the new feature, playlists generated by the respective service are not transferred during the migration process. This means that users will need to recreate their playlists on Apple Music.

Apple Music's broader content distribution via TuneIn is another step in the company's strategy to regain its position in the music streaming market. With 75 million active users, TuneIn provides a significant platform for Apple Music Radio to reach a wider audience.
