UC San Diego Offers Intensive Master's Program in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation

UC San Diego is offering a unique opportunity for early- to mid-career professionals interested in marine conservation with its Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) Program in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation (MBC). The program, which starts on July 5, 2018, is an intensive 12-month course designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills for effective leadership in this critical field.

The MAS MBC program covers a wide range of subjects, including marine and climate science, ecology, communications, law and policy, economics, and environmental justice. Students will receive practical training in scientific survey design and analysis, communication tools, negotiation, facilitation, and other essential skills.

The program is committed to diversity and seeks to engage international students, students from historically excluded populations, and individuals from underserved communities. It values diversity of personal experiences, cultures, and worldviews, making it a vibrant and inclusive learning environment.

Courses and fieldwork in the MAS MBC program are led by professors from the Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation at UC San Diego and top-ranked departments, such as the Graduate School of Global Policy & Strategy, Communications, Economics, and Visual Arts. Government agencies, private entities, non-governmental organizations, and external experts also provide special lectures and workshops for the program.

Students in the MAS MBC program tackle challenges facing our oceans in roles at agencies, non-governmental organizations, and foundations. The program actively seeks to prepare its graduates to make a significant impact in marine conservation.
