Applying or readjusting the sunscreen lotion
In an effort to raise awareness about sun protection in times of climate change, AOK, a health organization, has introduced UV Index boards in Pfaffenhofen. The boards, designed by the Working Group Dermatological Prevention (ADP) & German Cancer Aid, are intended for locations with an increased risk of sunburn.
The UV Index (UVI) shows the peak value of sunburn-effective UV radiation during the day. As the sun's UV radiation becomes stronger, the UVI increases. These boards will help individuals make informed decisions about sun protection.
Ulrich Resch, Director at AOK in Ingolstadt, emphasized the importance of these boards, stating, "We aim to promote sun protection and help people understand the potential hazards from too much sun exposure."
The Pfaffenhofen Health Department will use the UV Index board for appointments and events, such as in schools, kindergartens, and swimming pools. This will enable a wide range of people to benefit from the information provided by the boards.
The boards are not the only means of sun protection. Hats with a wide brim and sunglasses can protect the eyes from UV radiation. Appropriate clothing can provide good sun protection if it is dark, tightly woven, dense, and unbleached. Dense foliage of trees or shrubs is more effective at blocking UV radiation than most beach umbrellas.
However, at very high UVI levels, sunscreen alone may not provide sufficient protection. It is crucial to seek shade and wear protective clothing and accessories.

AOK aims to place the UV Index boards in partnership with regional partners. The current location of the UV index sign provided by AOK and handed over to the Pfaffenhofen Health Department is the Pfaffenhofen Health Department itself.
It is important to remember that the sun's UV radiation can damage skin, eyes, and potentially cause cancer. By using the UV Index boards and adopting sun-safe behaviours, individuals can reduce their risk of these health issues.
