In a bid to ensure road safety and maintain order in the city, police officers in Kassel conducted traffic checks in the city centre from 8 pm to 4 am on Saturday. The focus of these checks was on E-scooter riders, speeders, and show-offs.

During the checks, numerous violations were recorded. A 26-year-old driver was found to have exceeded the speed limit by an alarming 58 km/h and was also using his phone illegally while driving. As a result, a criminal investigation for illegal racing was initiated against him, and his driver's license was confiscated.

Unfortunately, not all E-scooter riders adhered to the rules. Some were found carrying unauthorized passengers, posing a potential risk to their safety and that of others. One 21-year-old E-scooter rider was even found riding under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol level of 1.5%. However, there is no specific information available about who was responsible for this serious traffic violation that took place on Saturday evening.

The checks also revealed that many E-scooter riders were not using the sidewalks properly, potentially causing obstructions and hazards for pedestrians. On Holländische Straße alone, 13 drivers exceeded the permitted speed limit of 30 km/h.

In a positive note, no issues were reported on Friedrich-Ebert-Straße during the traffic checks. Despite the numerous violations uncovered, the traffic checks served as a reminder for all road users to respect the rules and prioritise safety.

A 21-year-old driver was also caught driving a Mercedes Sprinter without a license, further emphasising the importance of having the necessary documentation to operate a vehicle.

The traffic checks, aimed at maintaining a safe and orderly city, took place in the city centre from 10 pm to 1 am on Saturday as well. The efforts of the police officers will continue to ensure the safety of all road users in Kassel.
