Arrest halted mugging at Münsterplatz by an elderly individual

In the heart of Recklinghausen, an attempted robbery occurred on Saturday at Münsterplatz. The victim, an 80-year-old man from Castrop-Rauxel, managed to thwart the suspect's attempts.

According to reports, the suspect approached the victim around 16:00, using a ruse to gain his trust. He asked the victim for a doctor, pretending to be in distress. Upon approaching, the suspect pushed the victim and attempted to reach into his pocket.

The suspect, described as a male, approximately 25 years old, about 1.70m tall, slim build, with black curly hair, was wearing a white shirt or t-shirt, black pants, and had a well-groomed appearance. He spoke broken German.

Fortunately, the victim was prepared and used his cane to deter the suspect from further actions. The suspect, however, fled the scene empty-handed.

As of now, the suspect is still at large. The police are urging anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward. They can be contacted at 0800 2361 111 or via email at [email protected].
