Arrest Made in Isleton Sexual Assault Cases; Sheriff of San Joaquin County Labels Suspect as a "Serial Rapist"
Serial Sexual Assault Suspect Vazquez Faces Multiple Charges
Bernardino Vazquez, a suspected serial rapist, is facing at least ten charges, including sexual assault and great bodily injury, according to San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas. The charges stem from multiple incidents across Thornton, Isleton, Elk Grove, Stockton, and Sacramento.
Freitas has expressed his intention to try Vazquez in San Joaquin County. The Sacramento Police Department has also filed additional charges against him, accusing him of assaulting a massage therapist.
Vazquez was already in custody at the Sacramento County jail for an unrelated incident involving the discharge of a shotgun. Detectives used multiple county cameras to track down a license plate number and link it to Vazquez.
Detective Withrow, who has been investigating the case, believes there may be more victims out there. He has appealed to the public, asking anyone who may have information or believes they could be a victim to come forward and call investigators directly or report anonymously.
The attacks occurred at various times, with some happening in the morning hours and others around 9 p.m. Vazquez confessed to sexually assaulting two homeless women, one near the Kohl's in Lodi and another near the University of the Pacific in Stockton. These incidents, however, went unreported.
The first clues about the suspect were received by a police station, but the name of the station remains undisclosed. Withrow considers Vazquez a serial rapist and is urging potential victims to come forward to ensure justice is served.
