Arsenal's Transfer Pursuit: Gyokeres or Sesko?
Arsenal's transfer window plans have taken an interesting turn, with the Premier League club still in negotiations for Rasmus Gyokeres, despite indicating a potential return of interest in Benjamin Sesko.
According to reports from Portuguese outlet Abola and The Mirror, Arsenal have sent their sporting director, Andrea Berta, to Lisbon to discuss the final terms for Gyokeres' transfer. However, Sporting have reportedly remained unresponsive to Arsenal's negotiation attempts, leading the Gunners to adopt a dismissive attitude towards continuing negotiations.
Sporting's strong position in negotiations allows them to call Arsenal's bluff and potentially wait for a more presentable offer, either from Arsenal or another club. The London-based team may reconsider negotiations for Sesko as an alternative to Gyokeres, due to the impasse in negotiations.
Keeping Sesko in the mix serves two purposes for Arsenal. Firstly, it keeps him as an alternative to Gyokeres, and secondly, it signals to Sporting that they have other options.
Gyokeres, a Sweden international footballer, has been impressive with 97 goals and 28 assists in 102 appearances for Sporting. Before his move to Lisbon, he played for Coventry City.
The sports club that has made the highest offer for Gyokeres so far is Arsenal, paying a base transfer fee of 65.76 million euros to Sporting, with potential additional bonuses raising the total amount. However, Gyokeres' family is reportedly happy in Lisbon, which could potentially temper his desire to make a career move.
As a result, Arsenal are considering abandoning their pursuit of Gyokeres due to impasses in negotiations with Sporting. The club has shown an apparent about-face in its pursuit of RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, a move that could shake up the transfer market in the coming weeks.
