Arsenal's Transfer Pursuit: Gyokeres and Sesko

Arsenal's negotiations with Sporting CP for Swedish international Viktor Gyokeres have hit a snag, but the North London club may have a backup plan in RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.

According to reports from Portuguese outlet Abola and The Mirror, Arsenal have shown renewed interest in Sesko, as they try to force Sporting's hand in the Gyokeres negotiations. Arsenal's sporting director, Andrea Berta, recently travelled to Lisbon to discuss a potential deal for Gyokeres, but Sporting's £60m upfront fee demand, plus £9m in add-ons, has proven to be a stumbling block.

Arsenal's proposed transfer fee structure for Gyokeres is £56m upfront, £4.5m in add-ons, and £8.5m triggered by performance-related metrics. However, Sporting's strong position in negotiations allows them to call Arsenal's bluff and wait for a more presentable offer.

Gyokeres, who has scored 97 goals and provided 28 assists in 102 appearances for Sporting, is reportedly happy with life in Lisbon, which could affect his desire to move. Arsenal, aware of this, are keeping Sesko warm as an alternative.

Sesko, a promising young striker, has been linked with several top clubs, but Arsenal have not terminated their interest in the Slovenian international. If negotiations with Sporting continue to stall, Arsenal may revive their interest in Sesko as a viable alternative to Gyokeres.

The transfer window provides an opportunity for Sporting to receive a more presentable offer for Gyokeres from other clubs. With plenty of time left in the window, it remains to be seen if Arsenal will be able to secure a deal for either Gyokeres or Sesko.

It's worth noting that the principles of buying a used car may apply to football transfers. As the transfer window heats up, clubs will need to negotiate effectively, consider all options, and be prepared to walk away if the price isn't right.

In the meantime, Arsenal fans will be keeping a close eye on developments, hoping to see their team strengthen ahead of the new season.
