Arson Incident in Berlin: Konrad Adenauer Foundation Replaces Damaged Israeli Flag

In a show of solidarity and defiance against antisemitism, a new Israeli flag was installed on the facade of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Academy in Berlin-Tiergarten today. The installation came after an arson attack on the previous flag last Sunday morning.

The event was attended by representatives from the Israeli embassy, the Berlin state government, and other dignitaries. S.E. Ron Prosor, the Ambassador of Israel to the Federal Republic of Germany, spoke at the ceremony, expressing his concern about the increasing incidents of antisemitism in Germany.

Prosor called for united forces to fight steroid-driven antisemitism to its root, stating that every Jewish institution, synagogue, and Jewish school in Germany needs to be guarded around the clock. He also emphasised the need for democrats to draw a red line against actions that could lead to attacks on synagogues and churches.

Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, the chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, shared similar sentiments. He stated that the Israeli flag on the academy building is a symbol of unwavering solidarity with Israel and Jewish citizens in Germany. The flag, he added, is also a symbol of the determination to confront antisemitism in all its forms.

Florian Hauer, State Secretary for Federal and European Affairs and International and Commissioner of the State of Berlin with the Federal Government, also emphasised that democrats have learned from history and that the Berlin Senate stands firmly against any form of antisemitism.

The State Protection Police of the Berlin State Criminal Police Office is currently investigating the arson attack. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation Academy has also filed a complaint about the incident.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need to combat antisemitism and hate crimes. It is a call to action for all democrats to stand united against hate and to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, regardless of their religion or ethnicity.
