Art Studio at Kunsthaus Wiesbaden, specifically the Schulberg, resumes operation once more

The Atelierhaus, a historic old building located on Schulberg in Wiesbaden, has reopened its doors to the public after eight years of meticulous renovation. This cultural landmark, originally designed as a school by Philipp Hoffmann in 1863, was converted into an Atelierhaus in 1988.

The general renovation of the municipal Kunsthaus was approved by the city council in a resolution on November 24, 2015. The architecture firm Lehners & Barbian was commissioned to oversee the renovation, which focused on energetic optimization, funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety.

The Atelierhaus, previously known as the Werk and Art School Wiesbaden, has always been a hub for artistic development. Vincent Weber led the Werk and Kunstschule from 1954 to 1965, transforming it into a renowned training institution oriented towards the Bauhaus. The Werk and Kunstschule moved into the current Atelierhaus premises in 1949.

The Culture Commissioner, Dr. Hendrik Schmehl, expressed that the Atelierhaus is an important prerequisite for promoting artists. He stated, "The Atelierhaus is a vital component in our efforts to support and nurture artistic talent in Wiesbaden."

Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende also expressed pleasure at the reopening of the Atelierhaus, highlighting its significance in the cultural landscape of the city.

The Atelierhaus spans across four floors and houses fourteen regional and international artists from various fields such as sculpture, painting, photography, sound art, performance art, and more. The Aula, one of the renovated spaces, will open on September 10, 2025, with the exhibition "Faceless. Women in Prostitution."

The Kunsthalle, opened in 2011, is another venue for exhibitions and events within the Kunsthaus. The Kunsthalle hosts six to eight exhibitions annually and presents discourses relevant to contemporary art and society. The Artothek, located within the Aula, offers art on loan for homes and houses the municipal art collection with 4,000 art treasures.

The newly redesigned auditorium of the Kunsthaus at Schulberg 10 in Wiesbaden will also open on September 10, 2025, with the exhibition "Faceless. Women in Prostitution." The Kunsthaus will celebrate its history and future on September 6, 2022, with various events inviting all interested parties to explore the Kunsthaus area.

For any questions or inquiries, citizens can contact the responsible department or office. The Press Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden is the issuer of this press release. The Atelierhaus is now an experienceable place of art production, ready to inspire and engage the community once again.
